FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Jacq?

Jacq is an autonomous AI agent that lives on your desktop. It runs tools locally, keeps full context across threads, and can hand work off to persistent cloud machines when you close your laptop.

Do I need an API key?

No. Jacq is a complete application — sign in, download the desktop client, and start working. We handle the infrastructure.

How is Jacq different from Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor?

Claude Code and Codex are terminal-first agents. Cursor is an IDE assistant. Jacq is a persistent desktop agent with a UI, memory across threads, and cloud handoff. It works even when your laptop is closed.

What does Jacq integrate with?

Jacq connects to GitHub, Linear, Jira, and Slack, and works with any MCP server — so you can bring your own tools and data into any thread.

Is it safe? What stops Jacq from running dangerous commands?

Routine actions run automatically, but Jacq pauses for your explicit approval before anything destructive or irreversible — you stay in control of the calls that matter.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. Jacq has a generous free tier for individuals and teams. You only need to upgrade for heavier cloud usage or team features.

What happens to my work when I close my laptop?

Jacq can move any active task to a persistent cloud machine. It keeps running autonomously and resumes the conversation when you reopen the app.

What platforms are supported?

Jacq is available for macOS and Linux. Windows support is on the roadmap.

Where does Jacq run my code?

Locally by default, on your own machine. You can choose to hand tasks off to our managed cloud workers when you need persistence or more compute.
